It’s been nearly a year and a half since rising star Sam Hunt released new music. His album Montevallo (named after a town where his ex-girlfriend is from) made huge waves within country music. Peaking at No. 1 on U.S. Top Country Albums (Billboard) it was one of the top releases that year. Let’s just say the entire album was seemingly focused around this mystery girl.
Shortly after midnight on January 1st Sam Hunt randomly released a new song “Drinkin’ Too Much.” It’s a talk-sing track that plays dauntingly over a gloomy melody. While some don’t seem to understand why one would “talk” in their songs, let’s take a look at the history behind it. Spoken-word is a form of art, it’s basically poetry. Hunt, who majored in Philosophy, seems to take a more artsy approach with his music. This style creates a change of pace and grabs your attention and let’s be honest, it’s a style that’s catching on quick.
“Drinkin’ Too Much” is a powerful song that surprisingly lists some of the singer’s downfalls. A song about drinking and pain, it’s a side most of us didn’t expect to hear from the Georgia native.
With lyrics such as “I know you think my dreams came true, since you been gone singin’ these songs are just somethin’ to do. Every dream I ever had was you. Hope you know I’m still in love, it’s the kind you can’t fall out of” it’s clear that the past year has been filled with personal issues, which could be another reason Sam Hunt has been hesitant to release any new music. However, sources have confirmed the 32-year-old singer is now engaged to mystery girl, Hannah Lee Fowler. So with his personal life in check, it’s safe to say music is now his primary focus.

Although the new track is not a single, it’s a glimpse into what fans can expect from his second studio album which is currently being created.
